Vicki O’Dwyer – Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

Feeling overwhelmed by anxiety? Struggling with Depression? Bearing the scars of trauma? Feeling stuck in painful relationship patterns? Mental health problems, difficulties in relationships and work, struggles to know and understand oneself, feeling stuck and unsettled about one’s identity; these are common problems.

Psychotherapy can be a helpful and valuable way of exploring and understanding difficulties such as these, as well as finding ways toward emotional growth and a more fulfilled life.

I offer Contemporary Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for adults and older adolescents and couples. These therapies provide a space to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences that may lie outside of conscious awareness yet deeply influence how we feel and relate to others.

Through open and reflective conversation, psychotherapy helps people understand recurring patterns, make sense of emotional struggles, and find new ways of being. This process can support meaningful change, improved relationships, and greater self-understanding.

My approach recognises that early life experiences and unconscious processes shape who we are and how we respond to life’s challenges. By bringing these patterns into awareness, it becomes possible to loosen their hold and create space for growth and emotional freedom.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a long-established, evidence-based approach shown to be effective for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, personality difficulties, and the lingering effects of early or repeated emotional pain. While shorter-term therapies may help with immediate symptoms, deeper work can lead to lasting change and a richer experience of life.

Whether you have a diagnosed mental health illness or are simply having to bear a demanding life, high-stakes career, grief and loss, relationship challenges or intimacy dilemmas or life’s ordinary conflicts, you don’t need to go it alone.

I work individually with patients in medium- to long-term therapy, and also provide couples therapy for those facing conflict, communication difficulties, intimacy concerns, or challenges connected to mental health or compulsive behaviours.
